Welcome to the Oklahoma Native Art Portal
The content and links we provide come from a variety of sources— interviews from tribal media, newspapers and magazines, academic scholarship, museum catalogues and exhibitions, and Native art and culture blogs, among others. Not all artists whose work is featured in the portal are Oklahoma-born, but all have roots in the state or ties through their respective tribal Nations or residency.
The purpose of this site is to allow you to experience and explore the creations of Oklahoma Native artists in a broad but practical context. Like the art itself, it is meant to be a growing body of connections. If you see something we need to point to or an event or collection to add, contact us and let us know.

The OOHRP would like to acknowledge the recent passing of artist Janet Smith on January 3rd 2020. Smith, 76, was a graduate of Bacon's Indian Art program, and combined her love of painting with a passion to serve others through art therapy, becoming the first Native art therapist to work for the Cherokee Nation. You can learn more about Janet's life as an artists in our 2017 interview with her in our digital collections or our youtube channel
